What Every Student Deserves • June 7, 2002
On June 7th, students from Los Angeles schools traveled to UCLA to attend Teaching to Change LA’s 2nd annual Youth Summit, "What Every Student Deserves." Students of all ages presented research on the conditions of their school facilities, the quality of their instructional materials, and the preparedness of their teachers. Students also posed questions to California Assemblymembers Judy Chu (D – 49th District) and Jackie Goldberg (D – 45th District).

The Education That Every Student Deserves: Summit Introduction Speech
"...we are here today - young people, parents, and educators - to raise our voices and demand the rights of students - to demand that education be made available to all on equal terms."

Students from Belmont High School investigated students' opinions on the Belmont facilities. These students found that more than half the students surveyed believe that classrooms need repair, hallways are overcrowded, and bathrooms are unsanitary.

Fifth grade students from Logan Elementary conducted a survey on quality teachers in which they found, among other data, that 71 students believe that their teacher does not let them read at least once a day.
