Student leaders at Santa Monica High School describe their school as safe and/or democratic.

Students of color and white students are separated at different locations and times (such as lunch) at our school. Oftentimes, in our AP and honors class, the diversity of our campus is not represented and many students are left out of the college track. Also this campus may “appear” safe, but we have the police patrolling our school and there were instances where students were taken out of school by the police without notifying the students’ parents, which we really didn’t make our campus feel safe and comfortable.
