Student Safety at Roosevelt High School

Student leaders at Roosevelt High School describe their school as safe and/or democratic through pictures and tell why they chose certain locations, people, or events.

Safe:
Enough exits in case of an emergency
Fire alarms 10 ft apart from each other
Enough space for refuge in case of an earthquake/fire
Enough supervision with some exceptions
Gates throughout and around the campus

Unsafe:
Tubes in the ceiling
Water fountains not in good condition
Unsupervised gates
Bleachers are old and students use the often.

Democratic:
Principal’s conference room
Principal is always available for every complaint there is
Students in every grade level are eligible to run for a leadership position.
Students are welcome to attend meetings that are held in school.

Undemocratic:
Students feel intimidated to let their thoughts be heard
Students must have certain requirements, such as a 3.0 GPA or above to participate in student council
There are not enough announcements that students must know
Students must search for opportunities due to the size of the school.
