What do you think and feel about school? Do you feel it is necessary, important, and fun? What are the most important issues that this school faces?
What are the reasons that you do not complete your homework?
I think school is a place where learning is fun. I don’t feel every teacher makes school fun. I don’t feel that every teacher makes school fun for their students. The issue I have with school are teachers. Many teachers make students feel bad when they say whether or not we learn. They just care about getting a check.
I feel it is necessary for teachers to respect their students, as well as receive the same! I feel this school’s issue are the teachers that don’t do much. Teachers who will just hand out work without explaining it. Teachers who sit back while everyone talks. I am not saying that it’s the teachers’ fault but has anyone ever wondered that maybe students want help and are not getting it. That maybe that is the reason why our test scores are low! Students can listen more and even help some teachers to try and change this.

School was and still can be fun. When I was younger, I used to enjoy school. School was fun because they had teachers who care about you and your learning skills. All of my old teachers used to push me to the limit. My kindergarten teacher was my best teacher. She helped me understand that I was smart. She knew I was very intelligent and assigned a two and a half page paper, which was middle school level, and told me to memorize it. The words were pretty easy to sound out, and I learned it that week.
I think that school is necessary and very important. It would be fun though if you could take away some big issues, such as teachers who don’t care about teaching. I usually get bored in those classes. I like to keep busy and some teachers don’t keep me busy. Some just sit around and yell at students.

I think school is very important. I also think it is necessary for all children to go to school, but I don’t think it is necessary for every student to take a high school exit exam in order to get a diploma. I like school a lot and I hope it becomes easier to learn. I am in the 9th grade and I’ve been in school for 11 years. I think it’s great. I just hope it turns into a great investment and I get enough education to go to a college or university. Then I want to get into a good career. I hope I can become a nurse or get into childcare.

How would you describe your student body to students who attend other schools in and around Los Angeles?
Students from Compton High are in two categories. There are some that are interested in their studies and come to learn something. That’s only some of the students, not all of them. Some just come to kick back.
If a visitor wanted to see the heart of your school, where would you take them?
The place that I would take the visitor is to a class where there is a group of students that come to learn and not come to fool around. I would want to show that person that it is fun to learn and at the end they would learn something new.
What future roles is this school preparing you for?
Hopefully this school prepares me to go to a good college. I want to study and graduate as a nurse.

How would you describe your student body to students who attend other schools in and around Los Angeles?
I think that our student body is not too good because we don’t appreciate our school enough. Compared to other schools in the Los Angeles area, I think that we are doing well so far because our school is improving every year. However, it is not as good as other schools that are around us.
If a visitor wanted to see the heart of your school, where would you take them?
If a visitor came to the school, I would not take him/her to a class that I’m doing great in or to the class where my favorite teacher is at. I would take the visitor to see my friends. Friends are the most important people in one’s life and you can get anywhere with friends beside you.
What future roles is this school preparing you for?
The future roles are not much and I do not feel prepared yet.

How would you describe your student body to students who attend other schools in and around Los Angeles?
Most of the students attending Compton High have potential to learn and succeed, but they are more interested in other things other than their education. A variety of students that attend Compton High have chosen to pay more attention to fashion and going out with their friends, which impede them from focusing on their school responsibilities. Not all students seem to care about their education
If a visitor wanted to see the heart of your school, where would you take them?
To me the heart of Compton High is located at the back of the “A” building in the trees where most of the students hang out.
What future roles is this school preparing you for?
At Compton High we only have a few classes that prepare students to become professionals in the medicine and technology professions. I could also add that just because we do not receive the same level of education as in other schools, this doesn’t keep various students at Compton High to try and prepare themselves for the profession of their choice.
