These students at Jane Addams are responding to the question, "Should there be computers in schools? Why or why not?" They all agree that students should have access to computers.
I think schools should have computers because some computers teach kids how to read write and learn math facts. Teachers use them to find out about what is happening in the school. Lots of computers even teach teachers how to spell words they dont know.
- José, Grade 3
I think schools should have computers so children could write a story about something on paper then type it on the computer and then print it when its done. In school you need computers to keep track of what students are doing in the school. Or you could use computers for research like me. I use computers for research. I use Heal the Bay report card for Los Angeles County. You could use computers in the school library to keep track of where all the fiction books are or where all the non-fiction books are.
- Anonymous, Grade 3
I think schools should have computers because how would you type [without them]? They should have computers because if the principal sends you a note you wouldnt be able to receive it, or if you got mail on the computer you wouldnt be able to write back. If you wanted to write stuff on the computer you wouldnt be able to do it, because you dont have a computer. What if you got a note about a paycheck, you wouldnt be able to see it.
