Definition of the "Digital Divide" in Our Community in Comparison to Others:

As our findings show, there are a few technology centers in our community. But in comparison the population, most of the residents don’t have easy access to computers or familiarity with different programs and software. And although there are computers in these centers and in our homes, there is no access to the World Wide Web.

Enabling Greater Access in Our Community

1) Computer labs at the schools should be open to students in the late afternoons and evenings for research and to use for homework.

2) We definitely need more technology centers with Internet access where everyone in the community can afford to pay for using the computers.

3) Getting more computers for schools and homes through grant writing either by teachers or community organizers.

Questions for the panel:

How much money is distributed to high schools for technology?

How is it being spent?

How do we stand in comparison to other communities?

Are teachers being trained in computers and do they get paid more for this?
