Definition of the "Digital Divide"

How many people do and don’t have computers.

Describes those who have computers and the Internet. Those who can afford computers will have them.

Separation between people who have and don’t have computers.

Seen based on socio-economic factors.

Rich people have more computers and Internet and will be more successful.

Ideas for enabling greater access to technology

Fundraising

Donations from rich people

Funding from government

Students with good grades should be given computers

Computers given directly to homes like welfare and food stamps; not checks but computers

Raise taxes for funds to give poor people computers

Is the "Digital Divide" going to disappear and how long will it take to get a computer in every home?

Why do women have less access to computers?

If the "Digital Divide" is closed, will the income gap also close?

Why do you think females are not participating in computer courses as much as males?

What do you think can close the "Digital Divide" in today’s society?

If the "Digital Divide" is closed would statistics on poverty and income really change drastically?

Are women treated differently from men who work in the computer field?

What kinds of programs do colleges offer for powerful learning and greater participation for females?

In what direction is the computer Internet industry headed?

For what reasons do you think women and girls have lost interest in the field of computing?

Are poor whites in the same condition as poor non-whites? If so, is anything being done for them?

Does the "Digital Divide" exist in other nations such as in Europe or South America or Asia?

Do women in other industrialized nations exhibit the same low enrollment in college computer classes?
